Prosperity Party Wins Nearly All Latest Certified Races While Challenges Now Cover 120 Constituencies

The incumbent Prosperity Party (PP) widened an already commanding lead, while formal complaints over the conduct of last week’s polls have spread to 120 constituencies.

In the latest results announced on Tuesday evening, the ruling party won all but one of the 22 constituencies certified by the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), extending a pattern of overwhelming gains that has shaped the election’s final stretch. The only opposition win in the batch came from Dega Habur Constituency in the Somali Regional State, where Mohammed Hassen of the Ogaden National Freedom Front (ONLF) secured 72.5pc of the vote.

Every other seat announced June 10, 2026, went to the Prosperity Party. The latest certified results covered one parliamentary constituency in the Amhara Regional State, three in the Central Ethiopia Regional State and seven in the Oromia Regional State. The Board also certified results for nine regional council constituencies in Oromia and two in the Somali regional states.

The announcement came a day after the Board certified results from 24 constituencies. In several constituencies announced in earlier rounds, the ruling party was the only party on the ballot.

Melatwerk Hailu, chairwoman of NEBE, arrived at the Skylight Hotel on Africa Avenue (Bole Road) and declared that the election process was nearing closure, though not without unresolved disputes. She disclosed that the Board had concluded voting in all special polling stations established for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and members of the armed forces.

The special polls were conducted on June 9 for 28,632 registered internally displaced persons and 126,498 military personnel. She also disclosed that only one constituency remains without a finalised result.

Of the two constituencies that had yet to complete vote counting, Halaba 1 has finalised the process and posted its results. Kebri Beyah remains the only constituency still aggregating results from polling stations, with electoral officials expecting the process to be completed shortly. That leaves NEBE with a narrowing field of unfinished tabulation but a wider field of legal and procedural challenges.

Close to 120 constituencies are now the subject of formal complaints. According to Melatwerk, her legal affairs team is reviewing the evidence submitted with the complaints and investigating the allegations.

“The existence of complaints would not, by itself, stop the certification process,” she said. “NEBE plans to continue announcing results from constituencies under complaint while investigations proceed.”

Election officials disclosed that the Board has received final results and ballot materials from 88.5pc of the 1,139 constituencies.
