The Ethiopian Commodities Exchange (ECX) will no longer enforce ceiling prices for cereals and oilseeds; leading traders exchange these commodities on a market basis.
Authorities at the Ministry of Trade & Regional Integration have revoked the price caps in a letter sent to the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) this week. The ECX sets floor and ceiling prices for trade in oilseeds and pulses following the decision of the Exchange’s board of directors to impose thresholds due to a growing mismatch between prices for sesame at the ECX and in international markets.
Trade Ministry officials regulate the sesame trade, revising the threshold prices for oilseed transactions at the ECX.
