Ethiopia's Ministry of Trade & Regional Integration reported progress in its efforts to stabilise the market after approving 568.8 million dollars in foreign currency for essential imports and increasing supplies of sugar, food oil and fuel. The Ministry added 804 weekend markets, bringing the total to 2,369. These markets enabled price reductions ranging from 10pc to 20pc, according to its report. It also said 32 modern market centres had become operational, while 750 million Br was allocated to expand livestock market infrastructure. Trade & Regional Integration Minister Kassahun Gofe presented the figures at a Prosperity Party forum reviewing performance during the 2025/26 Ethiopian fiscal year. Broader development activities across regional and city administrations brought total investment during the budget year to 190.56 billion Br. The Ministry linked the measures to efforts to curb inflation, strengthen supply chains and improve direct connections between producers and consumers.
