ECX, Nigerian Counterpart Seal Deal on Commodity Market Development

The Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) and Nigeria’s Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) signed a deal in Addis Abeba on May 7, 2026, to cooperate on agricultural trade, financing systems, and commodity market development. The agreement followed a study visit and training programme hosted by the ECX Academy for senior NIRSAL officials from May 4 to 7, focused on commodity exchange operations and agricultural finance. The two institutions will collaborate on warehouse receipt financing, quality control, digital trading systems, risk management, and technical exchange to strengthen trade between Ethiopia and Nigeria. ECX CEO Mergia Bayissa said the deal will improve market access and exchange services, while NIRSAL’s Sa’ad Hamidu said it will enhance knowledge sharing and market development.
