Leaders of the world continue to urge parties in the militarised conflict in Ethiopia toward de-escalation and dialogue. In an increasingly long line of calls for cessation of armed violence is Moussa F. Mahamat, chairperson of the African Union (AU), whose headquarters is in Addis Abeba.
The Chairperson called on parties to the conflict to, "respect human rights and ensure the protection of civilians."
"The parties engage in dialogue to seek a peaceful solution in the interests of the country," Mahamat said in a statement he issued yesterday.
His is not a lone voice in calling for peaceful resolution of the impending war in Ethiopia. From the United Nations to the European Union, as well as Pope Francis, the world is urging Ethiopians to give chance for dialogue.
"I am following with concern the news arriving from Ethiopia," the Pope tweeted last week. "While I urge that the temptation of an armed conflict be rejected, I invite everyone to prayer and to fraternal respect, to dialogue and to a peaceful end to the disagreements."
