Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has appointed Hanna Arayaselassie as the new head of the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) on January 17, 2024.
Hanna has been serving as the CEO of Ethiopost since 2020, where she led a transformative institutional reform that significantly enhanced service quality. Ethiopost tripled its revenues and earned the prestigious Postal Excellence Award of 2023 from the Universal Postal Union for the Africa Region.
Hanna is an alumnus of both New York and Addis Abeba universities, where she was a gold medalist and graduated top of her class. Her career includes a tenure as a lecturer at Addis Abeba University School of Law, a role as a senior policy researcher at the Prime Minister's Office, and a position as Deputy Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission under Abebe Abebayehu.
Hanna's appointment is seen as a step in Ethiopia's efforts to attract foreign investments, leveraging her extensive experience and leadership abilities, according to Abebe, who acknowledged her appointment, praising her intelligence and commitment to public service.
"She is exceptionally intelligent," he told Fortune. "Her commitment and dedication to public service knows no bounds."
