The Development Bank of Ethiopia (DBE), the state owned policy bank, has seen five vice presidents appointed today, January 12, 2026.
Brook Taye (PhD), the new board chairman, has appointed Yeneneh Gizaw to succeeded Getachew Wake, the longest-serving executive, who had been serving as vice president. Yeneneh is to lead corporate services, while Getasew Fentawe is to lead SME financing as a vice president. Getachew Belay is named vice president for corporate customer management, and Abebaw Siraj became vice president for finance and international banking. Desalegn Haile is assigned as vice president for information systems and digital banking.
Since Brook, who is also the CEO of Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), assumed the role of board chairman of the Bank, replacing former chairman Teklewold Atnafu, the former governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, DBE’s leadership has been reshuffled at a rapid pace. Essayas Kassa (PhD) was appointed president of DBE, succeeding Emebet Melese (PhD). Essayas is a former member of the founding executive team of the Ethiopian Capital Markets Authority (ECMA), where he worked under Brook’s leadership.
In a statement and an internal letter seen by Fortune, the new Board Chairman urged the appointees to carry out their responsibilities with full commitment.
