The Addis Abeba City Administration has banned property transactions through designated persons, a.k.a power of attorney rights. The ban became effective beginning on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
Chief of the city cabinet, Tilahun Worqu Robi, signed the directive which demands lessees or property owners to appear in person before transactions are legitimised by the city administration. City officials claim the ban is enforced to address "fraudulent" real estate and land lease transactions. It is unclear how long the suspension will last.
