Awash Bank has donated 10 million Br to the national task force that is mobilising resources for emergency preparedness for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Tsehay Shiferaw, president of the Bank, and Dibaba Abdeta (PhD), board director of Awash, handed over the cheque to Misganu Arega, state minister for Trade & Industry, who is also the chairperson of the national task force, at the premises of the Ministry of Peace. Firalem Shebabaw, state minister for Peace, also attended the event.
Yesterday, the state-giant insurer Ethiopian Insurance Corporation (EIC) donated 10 million Br to the task force, which was formed three days ago by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) to mobilise both financial and non-financial support.
To lessen the burden of its clients, Awash entirely removed the commission fee paid to extend letters of credits (LCs), payments on customers service provisions and automated teller machine (ATM) withdrawal fees for two months. It also enabled customers to transact up to 50,000 Br a day via mobile and internet banking. The Bank let its women staff expecting a child and aged employees stay at home for two weeks.
So far, Ethiopia has reported 16 confirmed cases, while the figure has reached a little over 600,000 across 192 countries.
