Awash International Bank has launched a mobile wallet service dubbed “Awash Birr.”
The wallet is accessible through its mobile application and USSD code. It serves as an agent banking platform where customers can open accounts deposit and withdraw cash from agents. It also offers balance inquiry, transfers, and utility payments, including mobile top-up, cable television payments, traffic penalty settlement, and air tickets.
During the launch ceremony held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel today, Awash Bank's executives disclosed they are working to incorporate electric and water bill payments into the wallet.
Awash Bank serves 6.8 million customers and has a paid-up capital of over 10 billion Birr, making it the largest capitalised private bank.
