The Ethiopian Food & Drug Authority (EFDA) said it has not authorised or licensed the distribution of the Nestlé-branded products in the country. The regulator ordered the immediate suspension of a Nestlé infant formula product, NAN Special Pro HA 0–12 after confirming a production malfunction. The recall applies to batch number 51660742F3, produced on June 15, 2025, with an expiry date of December 15, 2026, and a net weight of 800 grammes. EFDA issued a public alert over concerns that the product could circulate through contraband markets. The authority warned consumers not to purchase or consume the product and urged anyone who has obtained or encountered it to isolate it to prevent cross-contamination and report it immediately to relevant authorities. The suspension is linked to an ongoing investigation into a manufacturing fault that may have led to contamination with Bacillus cereus, a bacterium associated with the toxin cereulide. Other products under the same brand remain under evaluation and supervision, with findings to be disclosed once the investigation concludes. The alert was made public on January 8, 2025.
