Technology, trade, military, and investment areas are the focus of partnership with the BRICS family, according to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), praising the spirit of the summit in Johannesburg as a major diplomatic victory.
“Although Ethiopians might not recognise it," he said in a brief statement. "The world has acknowledged the growth."
The overall GDP growth, policies towards green energy, and initiatives such as the Green Legacy have played a part in convincing the BRICS member states to add Ethiopia to the mix, according to the Prime Minister.
Following a separate meeting with the Chinese President Xi Jinping, Ethiopia was granted a year-long pause to service its debt to China. Abiy is attending a BRICS summit in South Africa and stated that Ethiopia’s selection to the economic group whose bargaining power is gaining popularity serves as "a pride and victory for Africa."
