The statue of a giraffe around Addisu Gebeya has attracted the attention of small children. The city administration has been working actively for the last five years to create public spaces conducive to family-friendly recreation. The 250 million-dollar Beautifying Sheger Initiative along with the new satellite city being built in the hills of Yeka are some of the notable projects currently being developed. Despite only a few zoos, Ethiopia has an astonishing range of wildlife; boasting over 22,000 species of butterflies and moths, over 800 bird species, and about 320 species of mammals.
