UNOCHA Suspends Food Aid Distribution Pending Invesigations

A temporary pause of food dispatch and distributions in the Tigray Regional State has been decided in response to the reports of its diversion to the local market, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) situation report released last week. The report indicates an investigation has been launched to establish all the facts and strengthen controls. Despite the temporary pause on food aid, other lifesaving supplies, including nutritional supplements, water, and agricultural support, will continue to be distributed in the regional state. The report reads the diversion has dealt another blow to innocent civilians suffering due to the recent conflict where millions of people are experiencing acute food insecurity.
