Cereal crop production in Eastern Gojam and Arsi zones located in the Amhara and Oromia regional states foresee a 1.5 billion Br financial assistance from the German government. According to the project coordinators, the centrepiece of the project will be financing suitable seed systems and the development of market links. The agreement was signed between the State Minster for Finance, Semereta Sewasew and Cristophe Tikens, director of the German East Africa and African Union Group, at the headquarters of the Ministry on King George St. Despite being the dominant crop production, traditional farming practices and expensive seed variants cast a gloomy shadow to attain surplus production. According to the study conducted by Abebaw Dessie, cereals cover over 87pc of the total grain crops cultivated in Ethiopia, while nearly over 90pc of the total farming households are engaged in cereal farming.
