After Four Years, National Dialogue Heads to Final Summit

After Four Years, National Dialogue Heads to Final Summit

The National Dialogue Commission will convene its final national summit on July 15, 2026, in Addis Abeba. Chief Commissioner Mesfin Araya (Prof.) announced the timeline during a press briefing at the Sheraton Addis on June 12. Over the past four years, the Commission has completed preparatory dialogues in Addis Abeba, Dire Dawa, and 12 regional states, covering 1,234 woredas and 93pc of the country. Owing to security concerns in some regions, the summit has been relocated to the capital and is expected to run for three weeks. The Commission is currently consolidating agenda items submitted by regional delegates, stakeholders, and members of the diaspora. Mesfin reiterated that participation remains open, calling on groups that have boycotted the process to join the dialogue. Parliament has twice extended the Commission’s mandate by one year after it was unable to complete its work within the original three-year timeframe.
