CBE Launches Farm, Livestock Financing Programme in Dire Dawa

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) Dire Dawa City Administration has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dire Dawa Agriculture, Water, Mining & Energy Bureau to extend agricultural loans to farmers and pastoralists in the region. At the signing ceremony, Gezahegn Bekana, Director of CBE Dire Dawa City Administration, said the initiative aims to expand financial inclusion, boost crop and livestock production and support rural economic growth. He added that the bank will also encourage savings, promote modern farming practices and increase the number of active producers. Nureddin Abdella, Head of the Agriculture Bureau, stressed the role of access to finance in modernising agriculture and described CBE as a "people's bank" with a strong development mandate. Under the agreement, financing will be provided through working capital loans for crop and livestock production, as well as project loans for fruits, vegetables, dairy and agricultural machinery. The programme targets farmers and pastoralists across Dire Dawa.
