Bole District Confronts Delays in Construction on Leased Plots

Bole District Confronts Delays in Construction on Leased Plots

Authorities in Bole District have intensified efforts to address stalled land development, convening investors and stakeholders in a forum aimed at resolving bottlenecks and accelerating project implementation. The move follows growing concern over the slow pace of construction on plots transferred to developers through lease agreements in recent years. Data from the district's Land Development & Administration Office show that 184 plots were approved since 2019, with 139 handed over to developers. A substantial number, however, remain idle or underdeveloped. Recent inspections indicate that several projects are progressing slowly, while many sites have yet to move beyond basic fencing, raising concerns over compliance with lease terms. Chief Executive Officer Adefris Kora said land allocation is intended to drive economic activity and improve urban services. He noted that, despite government efforts to facilitate access through the lease system, some developers have fallen short of their contractual obligations. Officials urged developers to mobilise resources and begin construction without delay, adding that the administration will coordinate with relevant institutions to address operational constraints. The city reiterated its readiness to support investors, while signaling stricter enforcement of development timelines.
