Carrefour, one of the world’s largest food retail companies, is set to replace Queen’s Supermarket of Medroc through a franchise agreement.
Medroc Investment Group, currently under Jemal Ahmed, has agreed to convert all 13 Queen’s Supermarket branches into Carrefour outlets. The first phase of the transition is expected to be completed by mid-2026. Seventeen new Carrefour stores are also planned to open in the next two years.
Carrefour is a multinational retail corporation started in France in the 1950s, known for pioneering the hypermarket format. It operates in more than 40 countries, with nearly 15,000 stores worldwide, including around 3,000 franchise locations across 30 countries. The company reported 94.6 billion euros in sales last year, placing it among the largest retailers globally by revenue. It has expansion strategy, planning to add franchise operations in 10 new countries this year.
Queen’s Supermarket, widely known for its fresh fruit and vegetable offerings and its “farm-to-tray” supply chain, along with other standard supermarket products, is expected to undergo major changes. Under the Carrefour brand, stores may expand their product range to include furniture, kitchenware, and electronics in addition to their existing offerings.
