Nile Insurance Names Nibret Anteneh CEO, Replacing Nigus Anteneh

Apr 2 , 2026

Regulators at the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) have approved the appointment of Nibret Anteneh as chief executive officer (CEO) of Nile Insurance, ending a lengthy leadership transition at the company.

Nibret succeeds Nigus Anteneh, who led the Insurance firm for nearly a decade before moving to Hibret Insurance earlier this year. He had served as acting chief executive since August 2025, but was temporarily replaced after the six-month statutory limit on acting appointments expired while the company waited for regulatory approval. During this period, Meket Eshetu took over as acting boss until the latest confirmation.

Nibret brings nearly two decades of experience at Nile Insurance, where he has worked across underwriting, risk management, branch operations and executive management. Since October 2022, he has served as manager of underwriting and branch operations. Before that, he was deputy manager of branch operations for two years begining in 2020 and branch manager from 2011 to 2020.

Nigus, the outgoing chief executive, led Nile Insurance for a decade through 2025, steering the company through a period of expansion and regulatory change. He has more than 28 years of experience in the insurance industry and holds an MBA and an MA from Addis Abeba University and Leadstar Ashland University. He joined Hibret Insurance last month.

Nibret is expected to focus on revenue growth, premium performance and profitability as he assumes the role of CEO.
