Dashen Bank Chips in 30m Br Toward 'Dine for Nation'

Oct 1 , 2020

Dashen Bank has purchased tickets worth 30 million Br to attend a gala dinner Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) will host to raise funds for the redevelopment of tourist destination sites across three regional states.

Asfaw Alemu, president of the Bank, announced this during a press conference held at the new headquarters of the Bank located adjacent to the premises of the National Bank of Ethiopia(NBE).

Costing 10 million Br and five million Birr a plate for VVIP and VIP, respectively, Dine for Nation aims to raise funds for rehabilitating three tourists destinations sites. The three projects are Gorogora in Amhara Regional State; Wonchi in Oromia Regional State; and Koisha, in Southern Nations, Nationalities & People's Regional State. A total of six billion Birr is required for the projects, and half of the value is expected to be raised from the fundraising gala dinner.

Last week Awash bought three VVIP tickets worth a total of 30 million Br to attend the gala dinner, the date of which is expected to be announced in mid October.

Asfaw also announced that the Bank has distributed five billion Birr worth of the new banknotes across its 425 branches and all of its 325 Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). Last month, NBE changed the security features and colours of the 100 Br, 50 Br and 10 Br denominations. It also introduced the 200 Br denomination.

Over the past two weeks, Dashen received 25,000 new account holders and mobilised 700 million Br, according to the president of the Bank, the second-most profitable private bank in the country.

A directive issued by the central bank for the demonetisation process states that old notes redeemed for over 5,000 Br have to be effected through a bank account.

''The Bank is in the process of opening seven issue holding branches after getting approval from the central bank,'' he said.
