Dysfunctional traffic lights lay on the ground around the Meskel Square area. A Bloomberg report presented at the Addis Abeba Transport Bureau last week showed that nearly 80pc of traffic fatalities from traffic accidents in the country are pedestrians. With over 130,000 cars entering the country each year, according to the Ministry of Transport & Logistics, proper development of transportation infrastructure is critical to prevent a high number of accidents. The Ethiopian Roads Administration has 570 projects on its books, requiring 10 times its allocated budget of 35 billion Br.
