The World Bank is set to approve a 1.45 billion dollar budget support package for the Ethiopian government on June 25, 2026. The announcement came alongside a high-level consultation at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel, where leaders from the Ethiopian Chambers of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA) met with private sector representatives and the National Council. The package follows an earlier 17 billion dollar credit and summer service support allocation. Bisrate Teshome, senior private sector development specialist at the World Bank’s Ethiopia office, said the institution has anchored key macroeconomic reforms across the country. These include foreign exchange liberalisation, a shift to invoice-based customs valuation, and structural changes across banking, insurance, and the logistics sector. While business leaders welcomed the new financing as a boost to public and private sector liquidity, they urged the government to prioritise national peace and stability. Bisrate stressed that the long-term success of these reforms depends on maintaining a stable operating environment.
