Bahir Dar Gets New Pipe Factory

Edge pipe manufacturing factory was built at a cost of 244 million Br and was inaugurated on August 30, 2019. The factory rests on 4.7ha of land and is located in Bahir Dar, Amhara Regional State. The inauguration was attended by Temesgen Tiruneh, the president of Amhara Regional State. The construction work was done by Amhara Metal Company and Amhara Waterworks & Design. The factory, which produces pipes and taps that can be used for water and sanitation projects, will create 2,500 jobs when it becomes fully operational. It will also produce other materials such as plastic packages, fibre products and chairs, according to Acha Demisse, general manager of the factory. “The factory’s products will substitute imported products, reducing the need for foreign currency,” said Acha. “We also plan to export our products.”
