Customs Commission Puts Government Transactions on Mesob

Customs Commission Puts Government Transactions on Mesob

Public institutions must now process customs-related transactions through Mesob, a new electronic platform introduced to reduce manual procedures in government trade operations. The Customs Commission has directed the institutions to use the platform for customs clearance, transit processing, import and export procedures, transaction verification, and related services. Mesob became operational for public institutions on July 20, 2026, for customs services. Institutions must complete internal preparations for the transition, including assigning focal persons to manage customs transactions and coordinate with customs offices. The Commission expects Mesob to reduce paperwork, shorten processing times, and improve access to transaction records. The centralised system is also intended to strengthen coordination between public institutions and customs authorities. The rollout forms part of the Commission's broader effort to modernise customs administration and expand technology-based public services. Its gradual shift towards digital operations is intended to improve transparency, consistency and service delivery across government institutions.

Creditors Open Way for Ethiopia's Eurobond Restructuring

The approval follows renewed negotiations after official creditors rejected an earlier agreement reached in January. Under the new agreement, reache...

Oromia Regional State followed, while Amhara Regional State accounted for the remaining share. The res...

Dairy Drive Turns to Farmers to Cut Import Reliance

A five-year dairy project targeting 350,000 farmers has increased average milk production per cow by 3.8 litres a day, supporting Ethiopia's effort to replace imported dairy products with domestic output. The Ministry of Agriculture leads the initiative in collaboration with SNV's BRIDGE Plus project. It combines cow-focused advisory services, technology, market links and farmer capacity-building to raise dairy productivity. The work has centred on helping farmers produce surplus milk for sal...
