Government Procurement Goes Digital with 597b Br Turnover

More than 597 billion Br in government purchases passed through Ethiopia’s electronic procurement platform during the 2025-2026 fiscal year, widening the use of digital systems in public finance. The platform was used by 172 federal institutions and 196 affiliated entities during the year. More than 135,000 suppliers were registered to provide goods and services through the system, which is intended to improve transparency, accountability and efficiency in public procurement. The government has gradually upgraded the platform to simplify its use, strengthen oversight and reduce inefficiencies associated with traditional procurement. Implementation has also expanded beyond federal institutions and is underway in Oromia Regional State and the Addis Abeba City Administration. The digitalisation drive includes an electronic fleet management system designed to monitor vehicle movements and fuel consumption. More than 7,000 vehicles from 69 institutions have been registered on the platform, while 139 organisations have enrolled. The government plans to extend electronic procurement to all budget-funded institutions during the 2026/27 fiscal year.
