Kegna Beverages S.C. introduced its flagship product, Kegna Beer, at a launch event in Addis Abeba's Convention Centre, near the CMC area, where more than 700 guests gathered to mark the occasion. The new lager, with a five-percent alcohol-by-volume (ABV) content, is brewed from malted barley, hops and water and will reach store shelves in mid-June in 33-centiliter and 50-centiliter bottles, as well as 30-liter kegs, the company disclosed.
The brewery occupies 110hct in Ginchi, Oromia Regional State, and boasts a production capacity of more than three million hectoliters.
“This isn't merely a beer made in Ethiopia,” said Abiyu Abera, the company’s commercial manager, capturing the event’s spirit. It's made of Ethiopia."
Kegna Beverages raised nearly five billion Birr equity from more than 4,000 shareholders, ranging from an endowment company and individual investors to cooperatives.
“The profits flow back to the very communities that built it," said Afework Legesse, chief operating officer.
According to Etienne Rouge, thr chief executive officer, the operation combines global-standard technology with local expertise. Its Board Chairman, Neway Megersa, believes, “Kegna embodies the belief that by investing in ourselves, we shape our own excellence.”
The company employs over 250 people but plans to expand its workforce to 1,000 as production ramps up.
