The newly-formed council of Amhara Regional State has appointed Yilkal Kefale as the President of the country's second most populous region.
The new appointee will replace Agegnehu Teshager, who had been at the helm since November 2020.
Yilkal, who has previously served as the head of the region's Education Bureau, was sworn-in before the council today.
Last week, the council of Oromia Regional State decided Shimelis Abdisa would remain President of the region.
Likewise, earlier this week, the newly-formed councils of Dire Dawa and Addis Abeba also voted to keep their current mayors, Kedir Juhar and Adanech Abiebie, in power.
