Ministry Imports 89,000tn of Semi-Processed Edible Oil

The Ministry of Trade & Industry imported 89,000tn of semi-processed palm and soybean edible oil over the last year with the aim of easing the shortage of raw materials facing domestic oil factories. There are 26 large and 206 medium oil-producing industries in the country, with a capacity of producing 1.2 billion liters of edible oil. However, actual production remains at well below half that amount. In contrast, officials at the Ministry recently disclosed that the export of processed oil seeds, pulses and edible oil products brought in around 80 million dollars last year. The country's demand for edible oil is estimated at 906.5 million litres a year.
