Green mung bean continues to receive record-high offers on the floor of the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX). On May 27, 2021, green mung bean harvested in Gonder received an offer of 6,335 Br a quintal, the second-highest since the Exchange started trading the commodity in 2019. During the first week of April 2021, it was sold for 6,357 Birr a quintal. The latest offer is almost twice the price registered last year during the same period. Such an increase is witnessed due to the growth in international demand for the product, especially in China and India. By the end of the third quarter of the current fiscal year, ECX had facilitated the trading of 29,071tn of green mung bean for 1.1 billion Br. Shoa, Gonder, and Gambella are major producers of green mung bean in Ethiopia.
