Civil Aviation Authority Inaugurates Control Towers

May 15 , 2021

The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority inaugurated four air traffic control towers last week in Gode, Robe, Kombolcha, and Hawassa airports. The towers were constructed at a cost of more than 100 million Br and another tower at Addis Abeba Bole International Airport tower will be inaugurated next week. Though the construction work was slated to be completed in three years, the towers took almost double the amount of time to erect. The construction work was delayed due to contractors' inefficiency to deliver on time, and the tower in Kombolcha was held back due to the closure of air space in the northern parts of the country, according to Endashaw Yegezu, economic regulation and strategic management director at the Authority. Currently, the Authority employs more than 300 air traffic controllers.
