Ministry, Huawei Nurture Techie Women

The Ministry of Education is aggressively working on human resource development in the communications and information technology (ICT) sector, cooperating with private companies to provide practical training. Women instructors from all higher education institutions but universities in Tigray have come together in the capital to attend a three-day training on ICT. Partnering with Huawei Ethiopia, the Ministry of Education has trained female Information and Communications Technology (ICT) instructors to advance their skills focused on digital literacy. A total of 45 university instructors attended the training on 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and cloud services, given in two rounds with the theme, "Empowering women with digital skills and supporting the technology leadership." Zelalem Assefa (PhD), CEO of ICT and digital education, said that at the event held at Addis Abeba University last week, the Chinese Huawei has been engaged in ICT capacity building and leadership training for the past decade, targeting women in the academics and ICT sectors. "We're committed to helping women engage in tech and unleash their potential," said Liming Ye, director of public relations for Huawei Ethiopia. Huawei also provided a three-day cyber security training to the Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA) four months ago, attended by Balcha Reba, the Authority's director general.
