Both lines of business have been largely swept up under the galloping aesthetic revival Addis Abeba has been undergoing for the past few months. Several shops have been demolished, hundreds of vendors resettled, and many more informal operators stranded. An aesthetically revivified capital has split public opinion, with some heralding it as an architectural renaissance while others label it as an unaffordable luxury.
