The cost of a crate of beer has gone up by 10pc last week in the domestic market. A series of amendments to the excise tax law have compounded to diminish alcohol bottlers' returns that see rising production costs due to inflation and upsurge in the prices of fertilizer, chemicals and fuel. Growing pressure to deflate promotion has not done much to decrease the number of beer enthusiasts except add to the cost. A cold one is slowly becoming a rare delicacy for an economy that titers about 33pc headline inflation.
