Behind the chain-link fence, a flock of pigeons gathers around a bright red basin like a boardroom convening for a serious discussion. Crumbs scatter across the concrete as if someone just held a tiny banquet for the city’s most discerning feathered critics. A couple of humans go about their days in the background, completely unaware that the real power brokers are pecking and preening right under their noses. The pigeons’ casual dominance over the space makes you wonder who’s really in charge here. In this urban theater, the audience may be human, but the performers clearly have wings.
