The value in Birr of the annual meat production in Ethiopia (approximately 794,112tns). Close to 40pc this production is lost postharvest, primarily due to inefficiencies in the supply chain (particularly in storage and handling practices) and moisture loss in retail shops. It is strikingly high for a commodity as valuable and perishable as red meat.
