Spice Shipments Bring Nearly 15 Million Dollars

Spice exports fetched 14.94 million dollars from 15,612 tons shipped in the past fiscal year, the Coffee & Tea Authority reported. Top buyers included India, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Canada, the UAE, Yemen, Kenya, Iraq, and Pakistan. Leading exports ranged from long pepper and cardamom to cumin, coriander, ginger, turmeric, chili, rosemary, basil, thyme, and rue. Officials said a new quality and trade guideline has been finalised and forwarded to the Ministry of Agriculture for regulatory approval. Spices were cultivated on 683,294 hectares, producing 1.21 million tonnes, with over 2.26 million farmers engaged. Exports are projected to reach 17,194 tons worth 16.18 million dollars this fiscal year.
