Over 650 million Br is being invested in crucial drinking water projects across the Somali and Amhara regional states, with initiatives launched to improve access to clean water for thousands of residents. Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) has commenced projects in Nogob and Liben Zones of the Somali region, and formalised a contract for oversight of the Agam Ber Drinking Water Project in the Amhara region, all aimed at addressing critical water shortages. Two multi-village drinking water projects have been initiated in Somali region, valued at over 344 million Br and set to benefit approximately 37,000 residents within 21 months as part of the WASH program. Another in Liben Zone's Guradamole District, where the foundation stone was laid for a 298 million Br project is expected to serve 32,891 people. Sodak Construction Plc and Jarso Water Works Construction are handling the construction in Liben Zone, while the projects are funded by WASH Program and the government. In the Amhara region, the Ministry has a 10 million Br contract with Lalibela Study Design & Supervision Organisation for the monitoring, control, and contract management in North Shewa Zone's Tarma Ber Woreda. This project aims to address a long-standing drinking water issue in the region.
