The Regional State declared the emergency decree on March 26, 2020, aiming at containing the potential spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). The amendment was made following the statewide door-to-door screening effort, which resulted in no cases being found, according to Debretsion Gebremichael (PhD), deputy administrator of the Regional State.
The Health Bureau of the Regional State has conducted door-to-door screening between April 13-16, 2020. Carried out by 23,000 officers, the screenings covered over 1.5 million households, the officials claim. They found 33 suspected cases that have all tested negative for the virus.
The Regional State, which has reported no positive cases so far, also started a 14-day mandatory quarantine for visitors entering the Regional State starting from April 12, 2020.
