The Oromia Regional State Council has named Shimelis Abdisa as a vice president of the regional government who will also be serving as head of the region.
Shimelis will also be replacing the former President Lemma Megersa, who was appointed Minister of Defence at the federal level earlier today.
The Council, which is holding an urgent meeting this afternoon, has appointed Shimelis, who has been serving as chief of staff at the Office of the Prime Minister for the past six months, as the new head of the Regional State.
