Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) will be hosting the fundraising gala dinner 'Dine for Sheger' to raise funding for river revitalization on May 19, 2019.
The dinner, which is going to take place on the grounds of the Emperor Menelik II Palace inside the Prime Minister's Office, will start at 3:00pm with a scheduled visit to the Palace, which is undergoing renovations.
"So far over 200 people and companies have shown interest to attend the dinner," said Nigussu Tilahun, press secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister.
In addition to the dinner, China has agreed to finance 12Km of the project. UNDP and UNIDO have pledged one million
dollars, while Italy and the African Development Bank have committed five million euros and 600,000 dollars, respectively, according to Nigusu.
Expected to cost 29 billion Br, the project covers 56Km and aims at revitalizing the river that extends from Entoto to Qality. The project also includes developing riverbanks and recreation centres along the river.
