A significant reshuffle within Ethiopia's Public media sector saw the appointment of Getenet Tadesse as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), following a unanimous approval by federal legislators. His position as chief of the Ethiopian Press Agency has been helmed by Mesafint Tefera.
Getnet, an alumnus of Bahir Dar University with an undergraduate degree in journalism and a postgraduate degree from Addis Abeba University in the same field, also studied history. His nearly two-decade-long career in the public media sphere began as a reporter with a public media in the Amhara Regional State, demonstrating a steady ascent through various roles. The top position at EBC became vacant after Fiseha Yitagesu transitioned to another role as State Minister for Trade & Regional Integration, appointed by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD).
Mesafint brings to the table an academic background, including broadcast journalism from Addis Abeba University and postgraduate studies in agricultural economics from Kidist Mariam University. His appointment follows a tenure as Deputy CEO at the Foreign Policy Study Institute, marking a strategic move in his career within the media industry.
