The Ministry of Revenues has announced that it has identified 135 companies allegedly involved in tax fraud worth 14 billion Br.
The companies were identified after a tax raid operation and audit by the Ministry, according to Adaneche Abebe, minister of Revenues, who briefed members of the media today at the premises of the Ministry.
The tax audit revealed 57 companies were involved in alleged tax fraud, while the remaining companies were caught during the raid when making transactions without issuing receipts. The Ministry also caught 105 individuals red-handed while they were making transactions without receipts.
East Africa Trading House Plc, Misrak Plc, Sky Limit International Business Plc, Shendi Hotel, Rotterdam General Trading, Bazra Ferese Leather Export Plc and Assab Hotel are among the 78 companies that were charged for not issuing receipts.
“The individuals have already been sued,” said Adaneche, “and we have transferred the case of the 57 companies to the Federal Bureau of Investigation to conclude the investigation and charge them.”
Out of the suspected companies, 70pc of them are manufacturers, importers and wholesalers, while the remaining are retailers, according to the Minister.
