Headline inflation, an indicator of the cost of living, continues to soar, reaching 18.6pc in September, according to the latest consumer price index from the Central Statistical Agency (CSA).
The rate is a record high in five years next to the 22.2pc rate that was recorded in 2014.
Last month's inflation rate showed a 0.6 percentage point spike from the preceding month, which was 17.9pc.
The increase was mainly driven by a surge in food inflation, which reached 23.1pc. Non-food inflation has also spiked by 1.1 percentage points to 13.1pc.
"The rate showed an increase since September is the month of holidays," reads the report from the Agency.
