Fed. Prosecutors Bring Third Charge on Kinfe

Federal prosecutors have establiahed yet another criminal charge against Kinfe Dagnew (Maj. Gen), the founding CEO of the Metals & Engineering Corporation (MetEC), accusing him of involvement in what they claim was unlawfully transactions in the procurement of two hotels and a plastic factory worth 303 million Br.

Prosecutors alleged Kinfe had ordered and approved the buying of Rivera Hotel, Imperial Hotel and a PVC Plastic Factory by MetEC but without following the proper bidding process.

Ermias Amelga, founder of Access Real Estate, and Alem Fitsum, managing director of Alemgenet Steel Factory, are also charged for allegedly selling the three companies to the Corporation.

The charge, which is filed today at the 15th Criminal Bench of the Federal High Court, has two counts and involves 11 defendants, including the two former deputy directors of the Corporation Berha W. Michael and Mulu W. Gebriel (Col.).

The judges have adjourned the case to tomorrow.

Since the end of last week, Kinfe has faced two other charges related with the procurement of tractors and two shipping vessels the Corporation made during Kinfe's tenure.
