Bekele was a director-general of the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) for six years, before being appointed by the board, chaired by Nigussu Tilahun, communications director at the Prime Minister's Office. The appointment makes Bekele the third CEO of the company since the early 1990s, succeeding Woldu and Mulugeta Gessesse.
Woldu, who holds his first and second degree in law, has been working as Fana's CEO for over a decade.
Considered the nation’s first commercial broadcaster and multi-lingual radio station, Fana was a clandestine voice during the armed struggle against the military Marxist regime. before its establishment as Radio Fana.
