Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has appointed Ahmed Shide, minister of Finance, as the new chair of the Board of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), succeeding Teklewold Atnafu.
CBE officials are slated to discuss the state-owned Bank's half-year performance report with Ethiopian Investment Holdings executives tomorrow.
The board is composed of Fitsum Asefa (PhD), minister of planning & development; Getachew Negera, advisor to the minister of Finance; and Addisu Haba, former president of Debub Global Bank. Ahmed Tusa, former head of the Ethiopian Shipping & Logistics Services Enterprise, and Tigist Hamid, head of the Information Network Security Administration (INSA).
Wondmagegnehu Negera of the ECX, Aynalem Nigussie, minister of Revenues and Yasmin Whabrebbi, deputy chief of Investment Holdings, were also part of the board under Teklewold Atnafu. With a background in statistics, Teklewold had a significant regulatory role and served as the longest Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), marking nearly two decades of service.
