The Ministry of Transport & Logistics has begun providing permits to cross-border freight operators. The mandate was previously handled by the Federal Transport Authority (FTA), which is one of dozens of public institutions that are being folded as part of the government restructuring process under the administration of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD). In a proclamation approved by the parliament, all duties and responsibilities of the FTA were transferred to the Ministry. The latter has now begun operations following the completion of necessary preparation works. The number of cargo vehicles registered in the country has reached over 226,000, according to the Ministry.
