Labor Ministry Launches Tool for Safer Migration

The Ministry of Labor & Skills has rolled out "Lemenegede", a mobile app designed to support Ethiopians in overseas employment. Built in-house and backed by the International Labour Organization, it offers guidance on pre-departure prep, rights and obligations, and channels for filing complaints while abroad. State Minister Nebiha Mohammed said the tool safeguards migrant workers’ rights and welfare, with versions available in Amharic, Arabic, and English via Telebirr. ILO's Ethiopia Director, Kumbula Daba, praised its potential to strengthen fair recruitment. Officials added that the app aims to cut exploitation and make labor migration more transparent and worker-centered.
