An Olympic gold medal athlete has installed the latest information and technology system at his hotel in Adama at a cost of 7.4 million Br. Haile Hotels & Resorts Group, co-founded by Haile Gebre Selassie, inaugurated its seventh branch - Haile Resort Adama - on Thursday, September 3, 2020.
Developed by Micro Sun & Solution Plc - Ethiopia, an Indian company, the system was installed through local company Micro Sun & Solutions Plc. Part of the IT system is a new model of an Intrusion Detection System, a portal system that offers online reservation and booking from across the world, costing the company 60,000 dollars. A centralised uninterrupted power supply that kicks in within 10 seconds of a power outage is part of the property management system. Remote-controlled, pan–tilt–zoom, and closed-circuit cameras capable of remote directional and zoom control have also been installed.
With the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) system running the services even with no electronic power, its server room is equipped with three servers, six terabyte HD, network devices, and four admin distribute racks or supporting frameworks for the hardware. Among the other latest brands installed with the IT system is the Panasonic KX-TDE600, an advanced corporate communications system.
The IP controller, which controls more than 40 Wi-Fi models, is cloud key Gen-2, which enables it to provide and manage a password for every Wi-Fi user. The hotel is also equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi internet at 50Mbps.
The new hotel location introduces fire and smoke detectors in every room and corridor, a first for the chain. The doors are electronic with intercom systems allowing guests to connect the room key to their phone for access.
The latest addition to the chain, Haile Resort Adama, is an upscale destination located on a mountainside. It has 106 rooms and seven conference venues that can serve from 60 to 1,000 people. The hotel also features a swimming pool, two restaurants that can serve 100 to 200 people, a gym, a steam room and a sauna. Included in the hotel are a children's playground, a basketball court and a football field.
Haile Hotels & Resorts Group is working toward opening 20 hotels and resorts in the country, according to Abiyu Tesfaye, assistant to the general manager.
"We've managed to open the seventh branch after 10 years," he said.
The Group has three new projects under construction, Addis Abeba, Konso and Wolaita Sodo. The Addis Abeba project does not have a specified name yet, but the plans call for a five-star institution with the latest IT set up, according to the Abiyu.
The Adama site was planned to open before Arbaminch, operational since 2018, according to Haile Gebre Selassie, whose hotels in Shashemene and Ziway received major damage during the latest political instability in the country following the killing of the popular Afaan Oromo singer Hachalu Hundessa.
"It was delayed because of the bureaucratic process," he said. "It took two years just to get the land deeds transferred."
The expense of the new system for the hotel is expected as the technology is highly modern, according to Dawit Gezaw, an ICT expert, who believes that the country is lagging behind in technological advancement.
"Though the technological capacity of the hotel will determine its standard, better technology in high standard hotels and resorts is mandatory," he said.
